Oklahoma Senate Unanimously Passes House March Primary Bill

The Oklahoma state Senate today passed HB 1615 which would among other things shift the Sooner state's presidential primary from the first Tuesday in February to the first Tuesday in March. This is the first of four possible bills that would move the Oklahoma primary to March to pass both chambers of the legislature and move on to Governor Mary Fallin's (R) desk. It remains to be seen if the Senate will also act on HB 1614. SB 602 and SB 808, the Senate equivalents to the two House bills above are currently being considered in the House.

NOTE: SB 808 (same as HB 1614) emerged from committee today with a "Do Pass" designation. These two bills single out the timing of the presidential primary whereas HB 1615/SB 602 change not only the presidential primary date but alter the filing deadlines and other elections matters as well.
